The official title and director of the upcoming "Lego Movie 2" movie have been revealed. According to Screen Rant, Warner Bros. has already confirmed the official title of the upcoming film -- "The LEGO Movie Sequel."

Aside from that, it was also recently revealed that Rob Schrab will stand as the director. Schrab is known for directing some of the episodes of the hit TV series "The Mindy Project" and "Community." Screen Rant said that Schrab is a "long-time" comedy director though he also does some animation. Schrab is also behind "Community's" animated G.I. Joe parody episode and the movie "Monster House."

Cinema Blend added that Schrab is also known for directing episodes of various shows such as "Children's Hospital," "Parks and Recreation," and "Workaholics." He has also authored the comic book series "Scud: The Disposable Assassin."

"LEGO Movie" co-writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are currently handling the sequel's script, welcomed Schrab to the team.

"We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, 'Of course!'" the two said in an official statement, courtesy of Screen Rant and Cinema Blend.

This therefore proves earlier speculations wrong that the movie would be directed by Chris McKay, known for "Robot Chicken", Cinema Blend says. But Screen Rant said McKay would be directing another the spin-off film "The Lego Batman Movie" which is expected to be released in 2017. Plus, there's another Lego spin-off set to be released in the coming years called "Ninjago." Lord and Miller would also be among the movie's producers, alongside Dan Lin and Roy Lee.

Earlier, Lord and Miller said in an exclusive interview with BBC News that the sequel will feature more female characters. "I don't want to give spoilers but there will be more female characters and more female stuff," Miller was quoted as saying in the report.

"You can feel that the whole movie culture is now starting to wake up to the fact that half the audience are women...'Frozen' is reflective of that - and I think we are all going to find a great flourishing of women film makers and subject matter in the future," the duo added. Miller also stressed in the interview the lack of movies with female protagonists. Other than that, no further details about the upcoming film have been divulged. "The LEGO Movie Sequel" is said to hit theaters in 2018.
