First lady Michelle Obama continued her two-day campaign stay in Colorado on Thursday after visiting Fountain and Durango on Wednesday. The first lady had a scheduled stop in Castle Rock on Thursday, Denver Post reported.
On Wednesday, the first lady rallied close to 2,000 supporters at a Fountain middle school, where she urged them to re-elect her husband, President Barack Obama, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported.
According to the Gazette, Michelle Obama reminded the enthusiastic crowd that her husband won Colorado during the 2008 election with a mere 215,000 votes. "That could mean just a couple of votes in your neighborhood. You know those people. Maybe one person in your apartment building. Maybe one person in your dorm," she said.
"Just a few more weekends. That's all we've got," the first lady added. "We need you to work like you've never worked before. Can you do that?" She was met with a roar of approval, the Gazette reported.
During her stop in Fountain, Michelle Obama made sure to remind voters of her husband's first term accomplishments. "Tell them how Barack ended the war in Iraq," she told the crowd. "Tell them how together we took out Osama bin Laden. Tell them how Barack has fought to get veterans and military families the benefits they deserve."
The first lady also discussed the economy, an issue where the President lags behind Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. According to CBS Denver 4, she told supporters, "He inherited an economy in rapid decline. See, but instead of pointing fingers, instead of placing blame, your president got to work."
A recent poll by Quinnipiac University found that President Obama lags behind Romney by one point among voters in Colorado, 47 percent to Romney's 48 percent. After the failed performance in Denver last week, the president has seen a slip in polls where he once dominated among voters. He will have just two more opportunities to redeem himself before the Nov. 6 election.
According to CBS Denver, Romney's wife Anne also campaigned on Wednesday, but she did so by hosting ABC's "Good Morning America."
