A cringe-worthy video has surfaced of WWE star CM Punk punching the wrong person during a taping of "WWE Monday Night Raw."

The video went viral on YouTube the day it was posted. So far, more than 680,000 have viewed it.

In the clip, CM is seen standing in the bleachers with audience members. According to the LA Times, the CM character is a bad guy and rowdy fans were yelling and poking fun at him. One fan repeatedly hit CM in the back of the head. He turned around and hit the person back-but it was the wrong guy.

"Unfortunately, a few fans began shoving him and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologizes for reacting in the heat of the moment," the WWE said in a statement.

The LA Times said the WW apologized for not providing enough protection for the wrestlers and fans.

The man was not seriously injured, reports say, but he did file a complaint with the Sacramento sheriff's office.
