It has been reported recently that the much-awaited Android L 5.0 Lollipop update is about to roll out on the Motorola Moto G First Generation. According to Phone Arena, some Moto G users have recently received some message about the update from Motorola.

Mobile Syrup has provided a screenshot of the said message which states, "Future updates: We are preparing the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for your device. In order to receive it in the upcoming weeks, please ensure that you have the latest version of Motorola Update Services by selecting 'More Information' below. Note: you will not receive the Lollipop upgrade notice if this step is incomplete."

The news outlet said that this suggests that the update is indeed on the way though it has not yet provided a specific timeline for each of its devices. Note that aside from Moto G First Gen, Moto X First Gen, Moto G Second Gen, and Moto E have also not yet received the Lollipop update.

Mobile Syrup has also shed some light as to why Motorola opted this process. "A bit of background on this: Motorola recently untethered much of its core software framework to Google Play, allowing the company to push updates to certain important system components without upgrading the entire operating system," it said. Moto G First Gen users also have to ensure that they have updated their Motorola Updates Services app through the Google Play Store before proceeding with the message instructions.

Meanwhile, Android Origin reported that Moto E and Moto Maxx will also soon be able to enjoy the new Android update. It noted that it is expected that the official Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Moto E and Moto Maxx or DROID Turbo smartphones will roll out in the following weeks. It said that the update will first be rolled out to some "small test groups." It will then be rolled out to more users worldwide when no major bugs are found. It revealed that the update has initially rolled out to some of those in the "test group."

In a separate report, Android Origin revealed that Motorola has started sending Lollipop update "soak tests" to some Moto E users in India.

The screenshot provided by Android Origin proves that the soak test indeed happened. "Thanks for joining the Motorola Feedback Network. We are inviting owners of the Moto E 1st Gen to participate in an early preview of a new software release, and provide feedback. If you are not currently using a Moto E 1st Gen, please excuse and ignore this email. We can only accept a limited number of participants, so please don't wait to respond," it said.

It also warned the selected users that it was a confidential test and that this should not be shared on other sites. However, the information still got leaked.

Android Origin noted that some Moto Maxx or DROID Turbo users in Brazil and Mexico have also received the same soak tests. This was also backed by Autoomobile which reported that some Motorola DROID Turbo users have also received invites for a soak test.
