The next Samsung flagship device, expected to be called Galaxy S6, will boast of its amazing camera. A high official from the Korean giant recently announced that fans should indeed expect a lot from the new handset. In the statement he issued, DongHoon Jang, Senior Vice President and head of Camera R&D Group at the IT & Mobile Communications of Samsung Electronics, detailed the history of Samsung phones' camera and how it would continue to improve through innovation and breakthroughs.
The electronics company has gone through a lot -- from its first ever 0.3 megapixel camera phone in 2000 to its latest flagship Galaxy S5 which boasts of its 16 megapixel shooter and its Galaxy A series which are known for their "monster" 5-megapixel front cameras.
'The Next Big Thing'
Jang said that it is Samsung's duty to create smartphones that produce really stunning photos and it is their task to continue developing new world-class features. So, for its next big thing, Samsung has promised to continue doing great things and to take it even further. Jang said that they "meticulously evaluate" each smartphone cameras through capturing and analyzing more than 10,000 photos in every imaginable lighting environment. This principle, he said, will also be done in its next devices.
"The same passion and dedication has been put into building the cameras for the release of our 2015 flagship model. It will be intelligent and do all the thinking for users, allowing them to take amazing pictures under any conditions, without having to worry about anything more than just pressing the shutter button...It will demonstrate just how far Samsung has advanced smartphone cameras, and once again will open the creative side of our users for new ideas and new possibilities...At Samsung, camera innovation continues," to quote him.
20-megapixel camera?
Jang and Samsung did not give specific details about the S6's camera. However, Sam Mobile said in an exclusive report that the rear camera of the new device would probably be upgraded to 20-megapixel. It also has an optical image stabilization feature. Based on the prototype Sam Mobile spotted, the device's front camera would also be upgraded. It will be a 5 megapixel shooter, just like those found in the Galaxy A series. Sam Mobile noted that both of the sensors of the new cameras were made by Samsung with model numbers SLSI_S5K2T2_FIMC_IC and SLSI_S5K4E6_FIMC_IS.
According to the report, the new camera would also allegedly get a Pro mode, enabling users to choose from three focus modes including the manual mode. It is also likely that users could now control the shutter speed and even save RAW images. Sam Mobile emphasized that it is not yet sure whether these details are true as they were just based on the prototype and there is still a possibility Samsung would change its mind.
Aside from these camera details, the device is also said to get a Quad HD (2560x1440) display, Exynos processors, the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update as OS, a 3GB RAM, and is available on 32/64/128GB variants. The new device is expected to come out this March.
