Gamers who pre-ordered Borderlands 2 (BL2) and are part of the "Premiere Club" can download the new Mechromancer class for free today, a week earlier than it was originally projected to launch.
The new class compliments the Commando, Siren, Gunzerker, and Assassin with the ability to summon a robot ally in battle. To fill the role of the new class, Gearbox has introduced a character known as Gaige, complete with her own unique skill trees. Latecomers to BL2 must pay a fee of 800 Microsoft Points ($9.99) to download the new content. For those unsure about Gaige's value in the game can check out her skill tree on Gearbox's official site.
In other Borderlands news, lead writer Anthony's Burch's comments about his ideas for future Borderlands sequels made their rounds on the internet, sparking rumors that Gearbox was already working on a sequel.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford responded rather bluntly to the speculation on twitter, saying "Chill out internet. No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2. It's fun to talk and think, but actual effort is focused on Borderlands 2 DLC, Aliens, ect. Clean and simple truth: The only Borderlands related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2. I expect that to change at some point, but that is the state of the box at this moment in time...Anthony was speaking to his thoughts. We're all thinking about it and it's exciting to think. But there's no project - no actual effort."
If Borderlands 2 follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, which it likely will, expect regular and lengthy DLC releases in the coming months.
