Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale will no doubt be a major success for the Playstation 3. After all, who does not want to see major mascots duel it out in a massive party atmosphere?
However, unlike Nintendo's diverse list of mascots, Sony's has been developed by a number of different developers over the course of two decades. For those unfamiliar with the characters, Latinos Post will do in-depth analysis of each character, their histories, their move sets, and their Super attacks.
In a recent interview with CVG, game director Omar Kendall stated that Kratos from the God of War series was among the more difficult characters in the game to develop.
"His problem is that he has so much functionality. He has so many weapons, so many appearances and so many iconic moments," says Kendall. "The Kratos that appears in the mind of players when they imagine Kratos is really hard to get. Is there a particular weapon, or a particular moment in that character's history that speaks to players as the quintessential Kratos move or moment?"
Kratos is the long running protagonist of the God of War series and has been popular for his no nonsense attitude, his wide ranging arsenal, and his ability to take down the Gods.
His brother Deimos was once believed to be the warrior that would take down Olympus and the God Ares kidnapped him. Kratos tried to stop them and was scarred in the process. He eventually became the Captain of Sparta's army and served Ares when the god of war led him to victory. Kratos renounced the God after being tricked into killing his wife and set out on a mission against the Gods. In his journeys, he killed Persephone, Thanatos, Poseidon, and even Zeus. He tried to kill himself at the end of God of War III, but the Goddess Athena framed his attempt and his fate was left unknown.
According to IGN.com, the anti-hero has a vast arsenal at his disposal. His basic attacks include the Chaos Blade, the Chaos Blade Hammer, Fire Bow and Arrow, Icarus Wings, Chain and Grapple, Helios Head, Golden Fleece, Barbarian Hammer Wave, Nemean Cestus, and Hyperian Ascension. His combos include the Valor of Hercules, Cyclone of Chaos, and Plume of Prometheus. Another unique aspect about Kratos is that he is one of the few characters to have a counter attack.
His Level 1 Super Attack is the Blade of Olympus which he swings in front and behind him. It is meant to only kill one enemy and only has a limited range.
Kratos' Level 2 Super Attack is the Chaos Blade Tornado which has the demi-god thrust the Blade of Olympus into the ground and creates a twister around him. It kills anyone that touches the tornado. It has a limited range as well, but has vertical range.
Kratos' Level 3 Super Attack is called God Mode. Kratos puts on the Ares Armor, takes up the Blade of Olympus and grows exponentially. This attack allows him more range and will kill enemies with facility.
The website has also announced that players will also be able to change Kratos' appearance so that he looks more like his brother Deimos with an exclusive pre-order of the game.
Playstation All-Stars Battel Royale will be released on November 20 for the Playstation 3. The title will cost $59.99.
