NFL footballer Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks is embroiled in another scandal after he was fined $20,000 by the league for performing an obscene gesture during his team's victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, Pro Football Talk reported.
Reports have it that during the fourth quarter of the game, Lynch grabbed his crotch after running the 24-yard touchdown. It was game etiquette the league obviously does not agree with, slapping the player with a hefty fine.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported though that according to an NFL official, Lynch will end up being fined "significantly more" than that.
Aside from the penalty for the crotch grab, Lynch is already looking at a previous fine of $50,000 for each of the past two seasons wherein he kept refusing to talk to the media. It was something he did once more following Sunday's game against the Packers. Now he's being set to speak to reporters three times next week -- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday -- prior to the Super Bowl.
The league is still planning to demand more though, as the NFL official explained they would be increasing fines for each session he missed. Each fine will be greater than the $20,000 fine and two $50,000 fines he already has hanging over his head.
This certainly isn't the first time the footballer is facing penalties, and it's not even the first time he's performed an inappropriate crotch grab.
Lynch already had to pay the league $11,050 for doing the same gesture during a game on Dec. 21 against the Arizona Cardinals, according to The Washington Post.
In an similar turn of events, Lynch's Seahawks teammate Chris Matthews also ended up being fined for doing the same gesture at the same game, according to Fox Sports.
Matthews was fined more than $11,000, something Lynch took issue with, never mind his larger fine. However, Lynch seems to have taken issue with the wrong thing.
"I feel embarrassed to work for a particular organization that fined a teammate of mine for shaking my hand after a touchdown," he tweeted on Friday.
To be clear though, the league decided on the fine and it was for his crotch grab and not necessarily his association with Lynch.
Tom Pelissero of USA Today Sports tweeted, "#Seahawks WR Chris Matthews was fined $11,025 for grabbing his own crotch after the TD -- not for shaking Marshawn Lynch's hand."
Reports have it that the league and the Seahawks are discussing how to deal with Lynch, given his continuous inappropriate actions. It also remains to be seen how Lynch will act after the Seahawks' game against the New England Patriots on Feb. 1.
