Some Apple iPhone 5 owners have complained about a "purple halo" appearing when aiming the camera toward a bright light source.
The "purple halo," according to CNET, also shows up on any pictures taken or recording.

According to Gizmodo's Jesus Diaz, Apple initially denied the problem but has finally acknowledged it in an email to a Gizmodo reader
The email, by AppleCare Support's Debby, suggested users to "angle the camera away from the bright light when taking pictures."
Debby added the flare is considered "normal behavior" for the iPhone 5's camera.
The flare does not appear on the iPhone 4S.
To further test if your iPhone 5 camera has the purple flare, a forum member on AnandTech noted:
1. Aim your iPhone 5 camera at a bright light source
2. Move the camera so that the light source is just off-screen
3. See if the purple flare happens
The forum member added that the flare is not as bad on LED or florescent lighting.
According to Product-Reviews, the Sapphire glass used for the rear-facing camera lens could be the blame for the purple blur.
