The new Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Samsung Galaxy S5 has finally rolled out to several other areas and one of them is United Kingdom. The news came from Sam Mobile which spilled it two days ago.
Sam Mobile said that it is quite "odd" that the Lollipop firmware that Samsung rolled out to the S5 users in UK was still the Android version 5.0 when in fact all of its other flagship devices are already being tested with the latest Android 5.0.2 version.
"It is possible that merging the new Android 5.0.2 code with existing 5.0 code could have delayed the release even more, so Samsung decided to push the 5.0 upgrade, as it was already widely tested in other countries, and update the device to the latest version of Android in a month or two," it suggests.
With the new Android Lollipop update, S5 users will be able to enjoy the new features and enhancements that come with it which include new design, new lockscreen and heads-up notifications, MirrorLink support, Tap and go, and ART runtime, among others.
Sam Mobile said users can update their phones using two different ways. First is through Kies. All users have to do is connect the phone to the computer and use Samsung Kies 3. Also, they can use Samsung's Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) method. First, go to Settings, then to System, then to About Device, then to Software Update, then click Update.
Other areas which have already received the Lollipop update for their S5 smartphones include Poland, other European countries such as Spain, and recently Malaysia and Russia.
With that, the International Business Times is speculating that S5 users in the US, Latin America, and even India should now gear up as the much awaited Lollipop update will finally arrive "in a few weeks."
It is believed that the update will finally arrive to Galaxy S5 and Note 4 this month, though it was not stated when exactly. An alleged Samsung employee named "SamsungRep2015" revealed on Reddit that Samsung stores have already been notified via an email to prepare their devices for the arrival of the Lollipop update. The said email stated that starting January 2015, Samsung Android devices will start receiving Lollipop OS updates. It also noted the process or procedure of the roll out.
It noted that the update will first roll out on the Galaxy S5 and will be followed by Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Edge. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy S4, on the other hand, will be included on the "next wave" of Samsung devices getting the update. This will then be followed by Samsung tablets.
Gospel Herald says that the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge are expected to get the update by the end of the month. It also speculates that it will skip the 5.0 version and goes straight to the 5.0.1 update. Meanwhile, older Samsung devices Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy S3 are seen to get the update in the following month. Samsung has yet to confirm these rumors.
