Fans of Showtime's Dexter are gearing up for an exciting and very eventful season seven premiere on September 30 that will find Dexter and Deb dealing with, or trying to deal with, the enormity of Dexter's secret.

Last season, fans witnessed as Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) discovered her adoptive brother's murderous secret on the same night that she planned to tell him she was in love with him. Deb walks in on Dexter (Michael C. Hall) as he stabs Travis, the "Doomsday Killer."

Showrunner Scott Buck shared some details of the upcoming season, which is slated to be the second-to-last season of the drama series.

Deb and Dexter:

As fans know, Deb will be forced to deal with knowing that she's in love with Dexter but also that he's a serial murderer during this season. Buck told TV Guide that the Miami detective will struggle with her feelings, but that they won't just go away.

According to TV Guide, Buck said, "The feelings certainly don't disappear. If you're truly in love with someone, just because you discover something horrible about that person, [that] doesn't make you stop loving them. It'll be interesting for people to see what her first response is to that and how that will change over the course of the season as well."

Deb will not be the only one struggling with the latest revelations. Dexter will have a hard time dealing with his hard-to-acknowledge feelings for Deb and his homicidal compulsions. Buck noted, "Dexter is who he is. I don't know that Dexter is capable of change. We've actually seen him slowly evolve throughout the series, but to suddenly stop becoming a serial killer, it just doesn't seem something he is capable of."

Being who he is will also mean that Dexter won't exactly be careful about what he does. "You would think Dexter would be more careful in this situation, but the way that Dexter has typically dealt with stress, and the way that he has handled any kind of emergency in his life, is to try to regain control," Buck told TV Guide.

"The way Dexter typically knows how to regain control is to find the calm of a kill room. Yes, he should put the knives down and walk away from them for a while, but that's just not what the voice inside of him is saying to do at this point," Buck added.

LaGuerta:

Deb will not be the only person Dexter will have to be wary of. TV Guide reported that LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) will be reopening the Bay Harbor Butcher case this season after finding a blood slide. Buck said, "LaGuerta finds a blood slide and the only other instance that we've seen blood slides like that were those that supposedly belonged to Doakes (Erik King), the Bay Harbor Butcher, but we also know that Doakes stole those slides from Dexter."

LaGuerta's relationship to Doakes will "cause her to, in her own private, personal under-the-radar war, to re-open the investigation to find out exactly what this could possibly mean," Buck added.

TV Line predicted that fans could expect LaGuerta to "be circling Dex's Dark Passenger by season's end."

New Character- Hannah McKay:

Fans will be introduced to new character Hannah McKay (Yvonne Strahovski), who at 15 went on a murdering spree with Wayne Randall. After spending six years in juvenile hall, Hannah was released at 21 and went on to live a relatively calm and reclusive life, Bucks said. However, all that will change when Wayne Randall reveals that he can lead police to more bodies. Hannah and Dexter, Buck said, will find themselves drawn to each other despite their wishes.

'Dexter' season seven premieres on September 30 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
