After the news broke out that Capcom would be willing to remake Resident Evil 2 in HD, Latinospost decided to put fans to the test and polled them on their desire for the remake.
There were two polls which were aiming to look into two different things. The first poll simply asked if fans wanted a remake while the latter poll asked if they were willing to buy the game if the remake was made. The key here was to figure out not if fans wanted the remake, but if they would buy the remake. It is highly unlikely that Capcom would remake a title if they will not make the sales. While the sales are likely a given due to the franchise and game's popularity, it was still an interesting number to look into.
Another element of the polls regarded the gameplay. Both plays asked about whether fans would want the older gameplay or not. Poll number two also asked about whether they would prefer the new style Resident Evil or the classic "tank" style gameplay.
Now let us look at the numbers as of 12:56 AM ET on September 28.
The first poll asked a basic question: "Do you want Capcom to remake Resident Evil 2?" Participants were given 4 answer choices: "Yes," "Only if they keep the gameplay the way it was,""No," and "Resident Evil is yesterday's news." The latter choice was to see how many participants had no interest in the franchise as opposed to those who answered. The results out of 956 participants were an overwhelming 783 votes for "Yes" which was 81.9 percent of the total votes. But if we factor in the 129 votes for the second response "Only if they keep the gameplay the way it was" then an even more attractive 912 of 956 people want the remake. Obviously 129 have a condition, but the results are clear in this poll (it is still open for voting below).
The second poll was posted yesterday afternoon while the first one was posted at 12 AM on 9/27/2012. For those reasons there were only 193 votes as of the writing of this article. In this second poll, participants were given 9 choices for the question "If Capcom remade Resident Evil 2, would you buy it?"
The choices were:
Yes! No matter what console!
Only if they release it for the Xbox 360 because I won't buy another console for it.
Only if they release it for the PS 3 because I won't buy another console for it.
Only if they release it for the PC because I won't buy another console for it.
Only if they release it for the Wii U because that is what I plan to buy and won't buy another console for it.
No. Not interested in Resident Evil.
Only if they keep the gameplay the way it used to be in the original game.
Only if they update the gameplay to be more like RE 4. I hated the awkward controls.
I don't' care.
In this poil, the responses were again favorable to the remake as 55 voters (28.5 percent) stated that they would buy the game no matter what console it came out on. A total of 70 voters say yes on the condition that it be released on their particular console. And another 63 said yes but were specific about the kind of gameplay they wanted. The interesting thing about poll two is that while 129 people stated in poll one that they wanted the original controls, more people were in favor of the newer control and gameplay style in this poll. It is a small margin considering the small sample size (43 to 20), but it certainly is an interesting preliminary result.
In terms of negatives only one person said that they were not interested (0.52 percent) while 4 people said they didn't care (2.07 percent).
The two polls are only the result of one day of polling and they will remain open to see how more and more fans respond. But after one day, it seems that fans are really excited about the idea of an RE 2 remake. The ball is in your court Capcom. Make your move.
