Now that we know the endings for Resident Evil 6, it is possible to take a look back on where Capcom took the story and whether it lived up to certain expectations.

Leon's Final Boss includes a two phase battle with BOW version of Simmons. Simmons has been behind the murder of the President and the latest attempt at taking over the world with a viral infection. In the first phase he looks like some giant dinosaur that can eat you. His weakness is an eye in the middle of his body. I personally thought that he would be saved for Jake's campaign since Simmons was after Jake's blood. However it is a fitting conclusion to Helena's revenge over Simmons for the death of her sister. The battle itself is not among the better RE fights as it simply a dodge and shoot with the strategies being minimal. The second phase has him blow up into a massive figure with multiple red spots that have to be shot at to defeat him.

This kind of boss was actually quite surprising considering that the Leon campaign was supposed to be the horror one and had the least horror oriented of the bosses. Chris' final fight may have been a bit more in line with the mood of Leon's. I will concede that the nice touch of having Simmons' blood creating the Umbrella logo (below) was pretty clever and risky.

The ending simply indicates to us that Helena is likely to be Leon's partner in future installments as it has increasingly become clear that Capcom is more inclined to keeping the tag team style game play in the series rather than the solo missions of the survivor horror games.

Resident Evil 3 was clearly an inspiration for Capcom in Jake's campaign as the Usatank follows him around throughout the game. Like the Nemesis in RE 3, the Usatank winds up being the final boss in Jake's campaign. You might expect Simmons here, but this is a satisfying choice and in many ways, the only possible one. The boss fight however, seems a bit underwhelming and it looks like Capcom sought to recapture the battle with Wesker in RE 5. The setting is the same (a lava pit), and the means of killing him is also the same. The final sequence in which you must climb up the shaft of the transporter is a neat addition however.

The finale of the story is either something fans will love or will hate. Those hoping for a full fledged romance between Sherry and Jake will be disappointed that it never quite gets there. Those that wanted to stay away from the romance will be satisfied that Capcom showed restraint. I think that they played it a bit on the safe side personally, but it was a nice touch to add the Wesker glasses at the end (pictured above). No doubt Jake gets a spinoff solo game or is a part of the RE 7 cast.

Rumors have circulated around Chris for months. Is he married to Jill? Will Capcom kill him? Unfortunately neither is the case. But someone does die in Chris' campaign: Piers. Piers is a new character and there were ideas that Chris would sacrifice his life and pass the torch to Piers. What Capcom ends up with is no hero's death for Chris and certainly no heroic ending for Chris' campaign either as Piers turns out to get both. But no matter as Chris gets one hell of an ending with his final boss.

Of the three, he gets the most impersonal of all the bosses. No rival since Wesker Is gone and no enemy that he would want to kill for a personal reason. However, he gets a massive BOW and the fight proves to be the most creative of the three final boss battles in the game. Chris and Piers must climb up a series of ramps to escape from the BOW. Once they reach the top, they must navigator a maze of tunnels to find the way out before the actual showdown takes place. Piers gets injured and transforms himself into a BOW and then the next phase of the fight takes place. The tension is clearly there for the escape portions of the fight and while it may not be the most inspired of villains, it is clearly the most creative in terms of execution. While the other two main campaigns fight their final boss a series of times to the point of repetition, this battle happens one time with this villain and is the most fresh.
