Samsung has announced a launch party for the Galaxy Note 2, to take place on October 24 in New York City.
The device, which launches in the U.S. in mid-November, will feature a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED HD screen at 1,280x720 resolution. Amateur photographers are sure to appreciate the rear-facing 8-megapixel camera and the front-facing 1.9 megapixel camera. Under the hood, the Note 2 sports a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, supports 4G LTE, and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Note 2 is the first U.S. smartphone with both 4G LTE and a quad-core processor. The phablet's will use a 3,100mAh battery. 16, 32, and 64GB versions of the handset will be released, with a microSD slotexpandable up to 64GB. Unique to Samsung's device is the S Pen, which is a stylus crafted to enhance the Note's touch screen capabilities, allowing users to hand-write within a several proprietary features. S Note, S Planner, S Pen Keeper, Quick Command, Easy Clip, Photo Note, Paper Artist, Air View, Popup Note, Popup Play, Shape Match, Formula Match, Idea Visualizer, and email each allow for S Pen functionality.
Although Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T have not announced their data plan offerings, U.S. Cellular will launch the phone at $299.99. Likewise, T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T have yet to yield which versions and colors of the Note 2 they will offer. Spring, however, has announced a 16GB SKU with both white and grey options.
