"Fifty Shades of Grey" lead actor Jamie Dornan has defended the story line of the much awaited erotic romance movie.
Dornan, who plays the role of Christian Grey, a handsome young businessman, said in a recent interview with Elle magazine that he knows that some people are not happy with the movie's plot due to its sexual aspect. He rather emphasized that the film has a lot to offer as it is a love story.
"I can understand why people say tying a woman up and spanking her is misogynistic. But the love story is more important than the BDSM (bondage) aspect...I mean, we are going to tell a love story, you know, it can't just be what happens in the Red Room, that's not a film. There's so much more going on than that," the Telegraph quoted Dornan's interview with Elle.
The 32-year old actor also pointed out that he believes that more men like submissive sex than women. "Actually, more men are submissives than women. Very powerful men. It's a far bigger scene than I imagined: in pretty much any city in the world that you could name, people want to get spanked with a paddle with studs on it," to quote him.
The film has drew flak from several groups due to "sexual violence." A movie promotional poster showing the lead female protagonist Anastasia Steel, played by Dakota Johnson, naked and blindfolded as she sits on a red leather bed was even took down in a cinema in Britain after several people complained about it.
The "Fifty Shades of Grey" movie is based on the book series written by E.L. James. According to the movie's official website, the book is considered as "one of the biggest and fastest-selling book series ever." The trilogy was even translated into more than 50 languages worldwide.
The movie tells the love story of college student Anastasia Steele and handsome young businessman Christian Grey. The two met when Anastasia interviewed Christian for a school paper article. The two then find themselves engaging in sex and in a non-disclosure and dominance and submission agreement.
Joining Dornan and Johnson in the movie are Luke Grimes as Elliot, Christian's brother; Victor Rasuk as José, Anastasia's close friend; Eloise Mumford as Kate, Anastasia's best friend and roommate; Marcia Gay Harden as Dr. Grace Trevelyan Grey, Christian's mother; Rita Ora as Mia, Christian's sister; Max Martini as Taylor, Christian's bodyguard; Callum Keith Rennie as Ray, Anastasia's stepfather; Jennifer Ehle as Carla, Anastasia's mother; and Dylan Neal as Bob, Carla's husband.
The movie is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca, E.L. James, and Dana Brunetti. The screenplay is by Kelly Marcel. The movie will hit theaters on Valentine's Day next year.
