It is day two of the General Debate at the 67th session of the General Assembly (GA) in the United Nations (UN), and with 37 countries set to speak, most of the attention will be on Iran and Egypt.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been known to speak his mind during the General Assembly. He has previously said the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were "an inside job" and stood behind his country's efforts of nuclear energy.
This will be the second time Ahmadinejad will speak in the General Assembly Hall this week. He previously spoke on Monday once again talking about nuclear energy and events happening in the Middle East region.
According to the AP, Ahmadinejad refused to speak of Israel by name and instead referred to "Zionists."
"Fundamentally, we do not take seriously threats of the Zionists," Ahmadinejad said. "We believe the Zionists see themselves at a dead end and they want to find an adventure to get out of this dead end. While we are fully ready to defend ourselves, we do not take these threats seriously."
He added that he is open for a dialogue with the United States regarding its nuclear program.
Egypt's newly elected President Mohammed Morsi will make his first trip to the UN as the country's first democratically elected leader since the former leader Hozni Mubarak was toppled.
According to Egypt Independent, Morsi will discuss the country's developments, the situation in Syria, and the peace process in the Middle East.
Morsi is expected to meet with other world leaders such as the United Kingdom's Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, but not US President Barack Obama. The US President will not be meeting with any world leaders this time, unlike last year.
