On Monday September 24, the Metropolitan Opera opened its 2012-2013 opera season with its new production of L'Elisir D'Amore.
Before the show, the Met rolled out its Red Carpet and invited a number of celebrities from fashion designers, actors to Athletes and of course opera singers.
The red carpet was hosted by diva Deborah Voigt.
Among the celebrity actors were Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg, Patrick Stewart (Star Trek), Rachel Dratch (SNL), Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies), Maggie Grace (Taken), Nora Zehetner (Grey's Anatomy), Carlos Leon (The Big Lebowski) and many more.
Recording artists Rob Thomas (Matchbox Twenty), Patti Smith, Courtney Love, and Sia Furler also showed up for the spectacle.
Athletes Henrik Lundquist from the New York Rangers and New York Knick's Amare Stoudemire walked the carpet accompanied by their wives.
The fashion world was also represented as designers Zac Posen, Zhang Toi, Diane von Furstenberg, August Scarlett and model Ling Tan displayed their black tie attire.
As always the Met also invited some of their most glamorous stars and directors to the spectacle. Divas Renee Fleming, Lissete Oropesa, Isabel Leonard, and Maria Guleghina walked the carpet and were interviewed by their colleague Voigt. Legendary tenor Placido Domingo and his wife Martha were also in attendance. Even soprano Anna Netrebko, who was headlining the productionof Elisir, graced the carpet with her husband Erwin Schrott
The Red Carpet was broadcast to Times Square and in the Lincoln Center plaza. Shortly after the Met presented their opening night performance. The Met is expected to hold their next gala on New Year's Eve when Joyce Didonato opens their new production of Donizetti's tragic opera Maria Stuarda.
