Rumors are saying that one of Samsung's best-selling smartphones, Galaxy Grand 2, will soon have a successor.
The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2, which is known for its 5.25 inches HD screen, 8 megapixel camera, dual-sim features, and for being one of the top 10 smartphones in May this year, will soon now have a successor, the Galaxy Grand 3, reports said.
Although the new device has not yet been officially announced, Phone Arena said that we can now get to know the new device and get a glimpse of its specs as it has already been approved by China's Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center.
Contrary to earlier rumors that the Grand 3 would be a 5.5 inch in size, Phone Arena revealed that the phone may actually just have a 5.25 inch display. It added that it will have a 720p screen - just like its predecessor Grand 2.
In terms of dimensions, Phone Arena said that it will measure 146 mm x 74.8 mm x 7.95 mm. As for its weight, the new device will reportedly weigh 140 grams. This means that the new Grand device will definitely be thinner and lighter than its predecessor which measures 146.8 mm x 75.3 mm x 8.9 mm and weighs 163 grams.
The new device will also get upgrades. First, it will get better photos as the device comes with a 13 megapixel camera compared to Grand 2's 8 megapixel camera. The report also said that the alleged Grand 3 will get a 5 megapixel front-facing camera, aside from the 13 megapixel back camera. The Grand 2 has a 1.9 megapixel front camera.
It also has a new processor -- a 64-bit, 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410. Not to leave the storage behind, its storage capacity will also get an upgrade of 16 GB. Its predecessor Grand 2 has 8 GB. Both phones however has a 1.5 GB RAM.
While both have a MicroSD slot, the Grand 3 can support up to 128 GB and the Grand 2, only up to 64 GB. Like the Grand 2, Grand 3 will of course also have Android as its OS. However, the report said that the new device might get the Android 4.4.4 KitKat, not the new Android Lollipop update.
Phone Arena said that the rumored new device might be offered in several colors -- black, white, and others.
Although no official release date has been set for the new device, Sam Mobile said that the unveiling might be nearing as it has already been "spotted at Chinese regulatory authority TENAA."
"It's clear to see the Grand 3 offers upgraded specs over the Galaxy Grand Prime, and it's a good indication of how Samsung is packing better and better hardware even in its mid-range devices, which is probably a result of competition from Chinese manufacturers," Sam Mobile're report added.
