On November 18, Slash Gear reported that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be coming to the Google Play Edition of HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 smartphones on November 21.
The report even pointed out that the HTC handsets will be one of the firsts in the industry to receive the Lollipop update had that rollout materialized.
Apparently, it did not.
Christian Today reported that HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 users will have to forego the sweetness of Google's latest mobile operating system as the company has delayed its release, without specifying what date would it be releasing the update.
The Australian edition of the International Business Times reported that the roll out of Android 5.0 Lollipop has been postponed due to Google's request.
"Apparently, Google is requesting for another software version and HTC awaits approval before the update can be released officially," cites the report.
Christian Today noted that it was Mo Versi, HTC Vice President of Product Management, who initially announced via a post in his Twitter account the supposed November 21 release of Android 5.0 Lollipop. He also announced the postponement via a post the same social media account.
His tweet was addressed to a friend who asked if the roll out will push through on November 21. He replied with, "Darien, not tomorrow. Google requested one more SW spin. Will advise once we receive approval. Thanks."
"Unfortunately, there is no explanation on why Google requested for another software version and how long will it take to be approved," points out the IB Times.
During Google's official launch of the Android 5.0 Lollipop on November 2, HTC promised that it will have the latest mobile operating system on its handsets within 90 days after the launch of the Lollipop in the industry. If HTC is to keep its promise, it has until February 1, 2015 to get the update.
Android Origin is taking note of HTC's 90-day promise to its customers and is looking at a release before February 1, 2015, still well within the company's prior announcement or commitment.
"The Android 5.0 Lollipop update for HTC One M8 Google Play Edition has been delayed twice already. HTC is currently waiting for Google to approve their latest changes and then it should start going out to those devices. The HTC One M7 should be shortly behind this one. Updates to the two HTC smartphones will be released before February 1st. February 1st is the last day of the 90-day promise so we hope to see it released sometime around then," notes Android Origin.
