Based on early reviews on the iPhone 5, the new Apple smartphone will undoubtedly run faster compared to its predecessor, and credit is given to the new A6 processor.
According to Dave Smith from the International Business Times, the A6 CPU chip was custom-built by Apple and the iPhone 5 will be the first to feature it.
The A6 CPU is a 1GHz dual-core chip measured at 22 percent smaller compared to its predecessor A5 and A5X chips that are used for the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and 3, and Apple TV 2.
The new chip will run in twice the speed compared to the iPhone 4S and is able to hold 1GB of RAM.
According to Smith, "The power of the A6 easily makes the iPhone 5 the most powerful mobile device Apple has ever built. In addition, the A6 processor helps the iPhone 5 surpass the average performance of all Android smartphones, including all but two models - the Asus Nexus 7, and the Samsung Galaxy S3."
CNET has given a good review of the A6 processor, noting the fast speed role in the iPhone 5.
Sharif Sakr of Engadget said, "It's hard not to be impressed by the A6 engine in the new iPhone 5, since it's now proven to deliver a double-shot of great performance and class-leading battery life.
Engadget also noted that according to analyst Linley Gwennap, the A6 "falls short of its rivals 'in raw CPU performance,'" but points out that the chip's low power consumption makes up for the former.
Time's Harry McCracken also acknowledged A6's battery performance despite delivering "more power-hungry LTE connection."
The iPhone 5 isn't out in less than 48 hours, by analysts expect the A6 chip to maintain in the next iPhone (presumably the iPhone 6), according to Trusted Reviews. A new CPU chip is likely for 2014 for the iPhone 7.
