At the Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan (SCEJ) officially announced two new models of the PS3, which will be available in both 250GB and 500GB flavors for North American and Japanese consumers. The new 250GB "super slim" console will not be sold in European and PAL territories, but will instead be replaced by a PS3 with 12GB of flash memory.
In North America, the 250GB super slim will launch on September 25, bundled with Uncharted 3 and Dust 514 at $269. The 500GB will retail for $299 a month later on October 30. Japanese gamers can expect both consoles to release on October 4. The 12GB PS3 will land in Europe on October 12 and the 500GB on September 28.
Japanese Sony fans will have the exclusive option between a "charcoal black" or "classic white" color options. SCEJ made no announcements about the white console's future availability overseas. Aside from aesthetics, the super slim will be 25 percent lighter and 20 percent smaller than the160GB and 320GB PS3 Slims that are currently on store shelves.
PCWorld reports that the new models "feature a sliding disk cover, 2x USB 2.0 ports, Ethernet, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, 1x HDMI Out and a maximum 1080p output."
With the Wii U gearing up for its November 18 launch, it comes as no surprise that Sony is attempting to curb the media's attention away from Nintendo. Last Friday, Latinos Post reported that the Wii U would likely spur its competitors, Sony and Microsoft, into offering special deals, bundles, and devices.
Expect Microsoft to follow suit.
