Fans of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ (HIMYM) are itching for more news on the season eight premiering on September 24. As fans witnessed, the season seven finale of HIMYM was a spoiler in itself, showing a flash-forward to Barney and Robin’s wedding and their pre-wedding jitters.
Series co-creator Craig Thomas and executive producer and director Pamela Fryman spilled some secretes of the upcoming season, which may or may not be the last one.
TV Line reported that the season premiere will show Ted (Josh Radnor) with on-and-off-again love interest Victoria (Ashley Williams), dealing with the fact that she’s left her fiance at the alter for Ted. The two will be seen sneaking back into the ceremony to leave her jilted fiance a “Dear John” note, it reported.
The premiere episode will also give fans a better insight into Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin’s (Cobie Smulders) future wedding, although both are romantically involved with other characters in the beginning.
Thomas told TV Line, “They couldn’t start further apart. Barney’s engaged to another woman, and Robin is just getting into a relationship with [Michael Trucco's character]. It’s fun. It’s a fun challenge.”
“We will tell you that story,” Thomas added. “There’s going to be some relationship carnage to free them up to do that. It’s a bit of a relationship bloodbath in the first six episodes, and I hope in very entertaining way.”
In fact, Barney and Robin’s romantic relationships are not the only one to get the axe this season. Co-creator Thomas even went as far as dubbing October "Breakup Month."
“We’re in a funny predicament,” Thomas told TV Line. “[The premiere] begins with three couples we know are doomed: Barney and Quinn—Barney’s going to marry Robin—Victoria we’ve said is not the mother, and Robin has a new love interest that starts off the season too, played by Michael Trucco. But we know Robin’s going to end up marrying Barney.”
Despite some fans’ relief on the upcoming Barney-Robin nuptials, E! Online hinted that pre-wedding cold feet might derail the ceremony. According to E! Online, fans will see Ted trying to talk the nervous bride down but an important event revolving the previous couple (Ted and Robin) will come to light.
Fans for Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Marshall (Jason Segel), however, won’t have to worry about the adorable couple splitting up. With the birth of their son, Marvin Wait-for-it Erikson, at the end of season seven, Lily and Marshall will be seen adjusting to the newest addition to their family.
Thomas said, “We’re going to tell a story figuring out, ‘Who’s our babysitter? Who’s our nanny? Who’s going to help us with this?’ There’s a cool and meaningful answer to that question that we’ll see Marshall and Lily arrive at in the first few episodes. It will free them up to have at least the occasional beet with the gang. And the gang will consider [the baby] the sixth member of this group. It’s going to be very sweet.”
‘How I Met Your Mother’ season eight premieres September 24 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
