"Prometheus" was about the origin of humanity and the possibility of engaging with the ones who actually "created" us.
With that being said, what would the sequel be about? This is especially after director Ridley Scott had declared that the xenomorphs won't be appearing in any other film from now on, as he is done with them.
"The beast is done. Cooked," the director was quoted by The Guardian as saying. "After four [Alien films], I think it wears out a little bit. There's only so much snarling you can do. I think you've got to come back with something more interesting. And I think we've found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start."
He then went on to explain that "Prometheus 2" will probably be about following Dr. Elisabeth Shaw's journey with android David's decapitated head for a companion as they search the home of the Engineers' to get more answers.
So, if the xenomorphs - "the slimy, acid-haemorrhaging monstrosities from the Alien movies," as the British publication puts it - are no more, who will be the heroine's villain this time around?
"God maybe," actress Noomi Rapace, who plays Dr. Shaw, said in an interview with MTV UK. "Or The Devil. I don't know where [Ridley Scott] going to take us, but I can't wait to go there. I don't know what we're going to discover."
Noomi's response isn't entirely laughable, as the Engineers, considering they "engineered" humanity, can very well be considered "gods" of sorts.
"Noomi Rapace isn't saying that this is definitely happening, but she would have a better idea than most about where Prometheus is going in its thematic voyage," CinemaBlend clarified. "As if to remind us of the only real quantifiable piece of story anyone outside of the writers has involving the sequel, she dropped this reminder of the main thrust to whatever villain waits out in the stars."
"I know that Elizabeth Shaw wants to go to Paradise; you know I say that in the first one," Noomi was quoted by CrossMap as saying. "She can't go to earth; there's nothing left for her there really. And she wants to go where they (the Engineers) came from."
"In her head that's dark paradise, in a way," she continued. "So what's there? I don't know. I think she wants answers."
A number of those who watched "Prometheus" would also like to get those answers, too.
Right now, the script is still being written, with the director saying that :several drafts of the screenplay had been written" already.
"Prometheus 2" will be released in March 2016.
