Pangu has updated its jailbreak for iOS 8 and 8.1.
The Pangu Team (@PanguTeam) announced this on Twitter last November 9. Their tweet said, "We just released Pangu8 for Mac OS X. iOS 8.1 is now jailbreakable for Mac users!"
You can download it here.
MacRumors said that the arrival of the new update marks a week after the program was updated for Windows. The previous update results in an automatic installation of Cydia. Also, it now supports the English language.
Pangu's updated jailbreak tool, it noted, is so far the first and only program that is compatible with devices that run iOS 8.0 and iOS 8.1, including newly released devices such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The Pangu8 untether jailbreak is also compatible with other devices with iOS 8/8.1 such as iPod Touch, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPad Mini, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, iPad, iPad Air, and iPad Air 2.
Mac Rumors said that the Pangu Jailbreak for iOS 8 will allow many users to get contents such as themes and apps from other sources than the App Store.
User who are planning to jailbreak their devices are advised to back up their devices before using the program.
How to jailbreak
According to Life Hacker these are the steps on how to jailbreak:
First, back up the device. This was also in Pangu's reminders. You can back up your device by going to Settings then to iCloud, then click Backup, and finally select "Back Up Now."
Second, if you have a passcode on your iPhone or iPad, you have to disable it. Disable it by going to Settings, then to Touch ID and Passcode, and then disable it.
Third, shift to Airplane mode. You can do this by opening Control Center through swiping up on your screen. When you have finally opened the Control Center, click the airplane icon.
These steps, Pangu claims, "increase the success rate" of the jailbreak.
Fourth, download the Pangu program. Again, you can download it at https://en.pangu.io. Remember that you will also need the iTunes so you have to make sure that you have it installed on your device. You can download the iTunes 12.0.1 here.
When you have already downloaded the Pangu, open it. Then, plug in you iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
After your device has been recognized by Pangu, click the "Start jailbreak" button. Then select "Already Did."
After these steps, just wait for it to finish running. The iPhone or iPad or iPod will then reboot. Close the Pangu. Finally, click the Cyda icon.
Jay Freeman, one of Cydia's administrators, posted on Twitter that the Pangu jailbreak is "stable."
To quote, "If you are waiting to jailbreak your iOS 8.0-8.1 device until things are "stable enough": we now seem to be ready! ;P."
This was again followed by another tweet that said, "Cydia vendors can now mark their products as iOS 8 compatible. (The jailbreak platform itself is now stable enough to make this reasonable.)"
