Nexus phone users have to wait a little longer for the new Android L 5.0 Lollipop update.
Know Your Mobile said that the newly released Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are the first Android devices to get the Lollipop update. This has prompted people in the United States to start pre ordering. The Nexus 6 has been sold out in less than a day while the Nexus 9 continues to "sell like hot cakes."
Google said in its official blog that the pre-order of the Nexus 6 started in late October while the pre-order for the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player started on October 17.
The 8.9 inch Nexus 9, a new tablet which Motorola built with HTC, and the 6-inch Nexus 6 packed with Quad HD display and a 13 megapixel camera were both scheduled to be in stores this November.
It was also promised that other Nexus phones such as Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 will also get the Lollipop update shortly after the release of the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.
To quote Google, "Android 5.0 Lollipop, which comes on Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player, will also be available on Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10 and Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks."
Google Nexus also claimed on Twitter that the Nexus 9 will be the "first tablet designed for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update."
But Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 users have to wait some more days as the Lollipop update can not yet be issued due to bug problems.
Artem Russakovskii of Android Police was quoted by BGR saying, "Hey guys, I just got word from one of our tipsters that the first OTAs or over-the-air updates got delayed due to some outstanding bugs."
Russakovskii then announced the official date for the release. "It is now currently scheduled for the 12th [of November]," he was cited.
Google Nexus told several of its Twitter followers who asked about the Lollipop update that the "Android 5.0 Lollipop update is delivered over-the-air to your devices automatically and should arrive in the coming weeks."
Meanwhile, Know Your Mobile also reported that the Lollipop update is not the only thing that has been delayed in United Kingdom. Pre-orders of the Nexus 6 have also been rescheduled to November 18 while pre-orders for the Nexus 9 have already started in Amazon and Google Play Store.
Android Tips and Hacks earlier reported that Motorola's Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will be launched with the Android 5.0 Lollipo update installed. Meanwhile, the Nexus 5 will also be one of the Nexus devices to get the Lollipop update. It said that Nexus 5 users will get the update by mid-October. This, however, did not push through.
Through a statement posted on its website, Motorola confirmed that more of its devices will probably get the Lollipop update.
"Now that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be going to the world with Nexus 6 - a product of some of our own engineering - we are excited to confirm that this latest and greatest Android release will also come to our other devices as part of our ongoing software strategy to provide fast updates to our pure Android experience," Steve Horowitz, senior vice president for software engineering, said in the statement.
Other Motorola devices that will get the Lollipop update include Moto X 1st Generation, Moto X 2nd Generation, Moto G1st Generation, Moto G 2nd Generation, Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini.
