Apple has been seeing success with their mobile devices, notably with the launch of the iPhone 5, but when it comes to computers, the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display that has been receiving positive reviews.
According to CNET, "The unprecedented high-resolution screen on the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display makes images -- even simple text -- look beautifully clear. Despite a redesigned, lightweight body, the powerful components, including an Nvidia GPU, compare well to recent high-end desktop replacements. Overdue new ports, including USB 3.0 and HDMI, are welcome."
CNET noted, "Of course, the real highlight is that new Retina Display. Its resolution is 2,880x1,800 pixels, providing a level of detail never seen on a laptop before. The highest standard Windows laptop screen resolution is 1,920x1,080 pixels, the same as an HDTV."
Christina Bonnington of Wired reviewed, "Whether you're a fan of Apple hardware or not, it's difficult to deny that the new Pro's stunningly crisp, high-resolution Retina display is a significant jump forward in the notebook space."
She added that Apple has "undoubtedly" created the best notebook display currently on the market.
"Onscreen text looks impeccably sharp, as do any vector graphics. High-resolution images are pixel-perfect. Watching 4K video on YouTube is brilliant - it's a testament to the power of this machine that my Wi-Fi connection, and not the MacBook Pro's display or processor, was the bottleneck when watching 4K video. If your job requires you to examine each and every pixel in a frame or photograph, this is the display you want to work on," said Bonnington.
Steve Tilley from Niagara Falls Review wrote, "You want the MacBook Pro with Retina Display because it is fast. It wakes up in an instant. It crunches data with ferocity."
Business Bit's Sasha Muller noted the screen's display but also added, "The keyboard and touchpad are good. As usual, we found ourselves taking a little time to get used to the narrow Enter key, but this is no major criticism. The keys have a lovely cushioned spring to each keystroke, and the touchpad is a joy. The wide glass surface gives a smooth feel under the finger, and in stark contrast to the patchy gesture control in Windows 7, the multitouch gestures gel beautifully in OS X."
David Gilbert of the International Business Times reviewed, "There is no point beating about the bush. The MacBook Pro with Retina Display is simply the best laptop I have ever seen. It is beautiful, really well built, powerful and has a screen which is the best available anywhere on a laptop."
The screen is undoubtedly the biggest advantage for the positive reviews, but most of these reviewers due state one common negative: the price.
Currently, Apple has the MacBook Pro with Retina Display available in 15-inches with the price tag of of $2,199 for the 2.3 GHz and 2.6 GHz for $2,799.
As CNET put it, "With a $2,199 entry-level price tag, the MacBook Pro with Retina Display costs more than the typical American mortgage."
A 13-inch version has been in production throughout the summer and reports speculate a launch for the small version for later this month or October. It is rumored to be lighter and cheaper than the 15-inch version.
