Barely a year after the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the South Korean multinational company is again set to unveil a new flagship device.
While the date for its release has not yet been officially set, The Christian Today believes that Samsung S5's successor will probably be launched on February 15, 2015. However, Valuewalk projected a much later release date on March 2015 during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Samsung has not yet confirmed any of this.
What has only been confirmed is that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will still run Android. Google senior vice president Sundar Pichai confirmed this earlier this year as reported by bgr.com. Pichai said that the Samsung and Google are in good terms and that both are "always collaborating on projects." He also revealed that he prefers if the new Samsung wearables such as the Gear 2 used Android instead of Tizen.
So what's new with the Samsung Galaxy S6?
Although nothing has been confirmed by Samsung, many blogs and posts have listed some specifications and predictions for the device.
Screen resolution
Samsung earlier said that it would want to produce phones that have 4K resolution, Techradar reported. However, it said in another report that it would really be surprising if the Samsung Galaxy S6 would get the 4K resolution. But Valuewalk is optimistic that the new device would get a screen resolution boost.
The report also said that it expects the Samsung Galaxy S6 to have a bigger screen. It said that it maybe upgraded to 5.2 or 5.3 inches. Valuewalk meanwhile said that it is eyeing a Samsung Galaxy S6 with an "entirely curved screen."
Snapdragon 808 or 810
Techradar said that the Samsung Galaxy S6 would probably get either a Snapdragon 808 or Snapdragon 810 processor. The Snapdragon 808 is a "six-core 64-bit processor" which can support those with 2K screens while the Snapdragon 810 is an "octa-core 64-bit chip" which can support those with 4K resolution. Valuewalk agrees that it would probably have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset.
Android 5.0 Lollipop
As the Android 5.0 Lollipop has been already announced, Valuewalk said that the S6 would probably get this as operating system. Samsung has not released any statement or comment about it but it has been speculated that many of its devices will get the Lollipop update, Latinospost reported earlier.
4GB RAM?
Techradar added that it expects that the new device will have a 4GB RAM. This will be an upgrade since the Samsung Galaxy S5 only has 2GB of RAM while the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has 3GB.
20 megapixel camera
Valuewalk said that it expects the Samsung Galaxy S6 to have a 20 megapixels in the rear camera. Techradar said that the Samsung S5 has 16MP.
Iris scanner?
After Apple has release iPhones and iPads that have fingerprint and retina systems, Valuewalk said that this should be a challenge to Samsung to release devices with futuristic features. So, it suggested that it should release a Samsung Galaxy S6 with iris scanner.
