Neil Patrick Harris is many things: a singer, an actor, a magician, and now, he can add another persona in his list, as a "chameleon salesman" in Ryan Murphy's horror anthology, "American Horror Story."
According to People Magazine, Harris and his husband, David Burtka, will both be featured on the show. Harris will be a "chameleon salesman" on the 11th and 12th episode, while Burtka will have a "sexy storyline" alongside Jessica Lange in the 13th episode.
Harris, who has always been flexible as an actor, apparently asked for the role. He said to EW Radio a few months back, "I wrote a letter to Ryan asking if I can be in it, even though I wasn't even available to be in it. To do one that involves any kind of freak, circus nonsense is going to be so unsettling to watch. Can't wait!"
AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy responded to Harris and asked him to go to New Orleans. In an interview with E! Online a few weeks back, he said, "Obviously we have worked together before, I'm working on something and hopefully we will talk next week. He's game. He had very specific ideas of what he wanted to do, and I had very specific ideas, so we're melding them. He's awesome, one of our great entertainers, and I would love to see him and Jessica Lange go at it in some intriguing way. Because of his schedule, something we're thinking about, maybe one episode and then another one later on."
Murphy and Harris previously collaborated on the first season of "Glee," a role, which TV Line noted, that landed the "How I Met Your Mother" actor an Emmy as Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
His role on AHS is just another rap to his already impressive resume for the year: the actor will also host the 2015 Academy Awards, as well as host his own NBC variety show.
Harris and Burtka, however, are not the only ones who are guest starring in FX's hit series. AHS fans can be excited for a reappearance of a beloved character: Lily Rabe as Sister Mary Eunice from season two (Asylum), who will be appearing in Episode 10.
Patti LaBelle, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, and Celia Weston will also be appearing in "Freak Show" alongside Harris, Burtka, and Rabe, and the rest of the AHS cast.
Get caught up on "American Horror Story: Freak Show" on FX, Wednesdays at 10PM.
