Can't wait for the new and much-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop? Calm down and read this latest update about Android L.

We earlier published a story on the list of smartphones that will get the newest Android version. In this article, we will tackle some of the best features of this Lollipop update.

Longer Battery

First on the list is the battery saver feature. According to Android, phones that will get the updated OS will definitely enjoy longer battery life. It hinted that the new OS will have a "battery saver feature" that can extend the use of the device by at least an hour and a half. Aside from this, users can now see more detailed information about charging -- how much time is needed to charge the phone and how much time is left before it drains out.

Device Sharing

According to Android, the new Lollipop update will enable "more flexible sharing with family and friends."

So what exactly does this mean? Android said that with the new update, several users can now be allowed to share one phone without sharing own files. Also, users can use other Android phones packed with the new Lollipop update to view and check their files, photos, and videos. All of these can be done just by logging in.

Better Security

One of the major concerns most Android users are airing is security. According to Techcrunch, Android has really dealt with it seriously. The report says the new Lollipop update now has more lock methods to keep the device secure. It also has the new Android Smart Lock which can protect the phone or the tablet. The device's security can be assured through "pairing it it with a trusted device like your wearable or even your car," it said.

Techcrunch also said that the Face Unlock has also been updated.

"Rather than pretending to take a picture, and analyze it, it's analyzing a user's face on an ongoing basis...If a user's opted in and is using this method, at the moment it detects that a user isn't the one that it's expecting, it locks. That's very different from the previous model," Adrian Ludwig, Android security engineering official, was quoted as saying in the Techcrunch report.

Also, Android said that to protect lost data and even stolen devices, phones with the newest update will now have their encryption automatically turned on. Aside from this, it has used SELinux, or as Techcrunch defined it Security Enhanced Linux, that protects the device against malwares and other threats.

Improved Audio and Camera

Another major feature being eyed is the improved audio and camera abilities. Android, of course, will not fail its users, as Forbes said that the new update will bring in "better camera performance on smartphones."

The new Lollipop update comes with new professional photography features. It can also support other formats such as YUV and Bayer RAW.

Meanwhile, video watching and streaming will also improve with the new "state of the art video technology with support for HEVC to allow for UHD 4K video playback, tunneled video for high quality video playback on Android TV and improved HLS support for streaming," Android said. Mobile graphics will also be better with the new OpenGL ES 3.1 and Android extension pack, it added.

Faster Internet & Bluetooth

Android also promised that the new update will enable better and faster internet connection and improved Bluetooth. Also, it will retain its ART Android runtime for a "faster, smoother and more powerful computing experience."

The new OS update also includes new additional languages. There are now almost 70 languages users can choose from, Android said.
