The season seven finale of 'Bones' left fans aching for more details on Dr. Brennan's run from the law and how on-screen love Agent Booth would handle it. Thankfully, with just a week away from the premiere, executive producer Stephen Nathan has revealed some sweet tidbits to keep fans going.
On Brennan and Booth
Brennan's departure with baby Christine definitely left a sour taste in Booth's mouth, but it doesn't mean the end of their relationship. Fans will see Brennan (Emily Deschanel) reunite with Booth (David Boreanaz) in the first episode, which Entertainment Weekly dubbed, "very cute." Viewers will even be treated to Baby Christine's first words, EW reported.
Although the couple is back together, things are still not looking good for the forensic anthropologist. Still on the lam after being accused of murder, Brennan and the rest of the gang will have to figure out a way to go after serial murderer Pelant.
On Angela and Hodgins
Executive producer Nathan told TV Line that Brennan's best friend, Angela (Michaela Conlin), will be doing some major re-evaluation of her life. "With Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) being a gazillionaire, she doesn't really have to work. Also, what's kind of been lost in these seven years is that Angela is a temporary employee [at the Jeffersonian]. But because she's become so close to everybody, she's working there full time. But that was never her intent. This was always just a sideline [gig] for her, so she's [questioning whether] she should go off and pursue what she originally wanted to pursue."
The producer also told TV Line that "Something will occur with Hodgins where it might not be as simple as she thinks."
On Squinterns and the Jeffersonian
With Brennan gone, fans will see top "squintern" Dr. Clark Edison (Eugene Byrd) take over the Jeffersonian staff, BuddyTV reported. According to Wetpaint, not only will Edison take over, but the staff at the Jeffersonian will get a couple new squinterns.
Sweets (John Francis Daley) will also be experiencing new changes in his life, Nathan teased. "Sweets life will take a turn. He's been very complacent. He thinks he has a very secure thing going on with Daisy (Carla Gallo), but I think we're going to try to shake things up for Sweets," he told Wetpaint.
On New Cases and the Upcoming Season
Nathan promised fans that the upcoming season would return the show to its murder-show roots, Wetpaint reported. TV Guide reported that the murder-solving duo will head over to an unusual youth community where everyone lives like it's the late 1800s and is being rocked by Jack the Ripper-style killings.
Things will also not be as easy-going and perfect as they seemed last season, Nathan said.
The executive producer told TV Line, "We kind of looked at last season as everybody came together and became very comfortable. So it was sort of a funnier, very peaceful and kind of loving season. But we don't want them to get too comfortable. People were broken apart [in the finale] and we're going to try to see how they come back together - if they come back together. Booth and Brennan have a lot to deal with. She might've done the right thing, but she broke up the family [and] went away. She took his daughter. And they're going to have to get past that."
'Bones' season 8 premieres on September 17 at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
