Apparently, not everyone has had enough of sparkling vampires and catatonic girls who only wish to live happily ever after with someone older than her grandparents.
According to Rolling Stone, Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga is going to have a spin-off series that will premiere on Facebook.
Meyer and Lionsgate (the company that produced the Twilight Movies) have reportedly partnered with the social networking site to develop five short films based on the series universe, to be launched on the social media giant next year.
But before the series starts filming, the New York Times spilled that there will be a competition for five female directors to make the shorts, and the search will be called "The Storytellers: New Voices of the Twilight Saga."
The new directors will be chosen by a panel of judges: author Stephenie Meyer, actress Kristen Stewart (who played Bella in all the films) and Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, said The Daily Mail.
According to The Guardian, Meyer chose to have a female director for the new series because "The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I've worked in the film industry." She added, "I'm honoured to be working with Women In Film, Lionsgate and Facebook on a project dedicated to giving more women a chance to be heard creatively."
Michael Burns, Lionsgate Vice chairman, said in an interview that ""We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of 'Twilight' to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans."
But why Facebook? According to the article from New York Times, it is enticing for the film industry to bring films to social networks considering that Facebook attracts over 1.3 billion users monthly.
As for Facebook, CBA announced that it is the social network's opportunity to move past being just an avenue for movie trailers - it can host a movie itself.
The original movie cast is not expected to make appearances in the short films, but Lionsgate confirmed that it will be spending a significant amount for short film production.
Not many details have been released for these Facebook projects, however, but rest assured, this is happening. Facebook's Dan Rose said in an article printed by The Guardian, "More people than ever before are creating, discovering and engaging with videos on Facebook. This collaboration with Stephenie Meyer, Lionsgate and Women In Film is a great opportunity to engage 'Twilight's' massive global audience on Facebook through an innovative premium video program."
With fans salivating for another go at the "Twilight" saga, he may just be right.
Do you think the "Twilight" miniseries is a good idea?
