The 90s is having a comeback, and it's bloody awesome.

Bloody in the literal sense though, because an old 90s slasher favorite is getting a remake, and it's for that summer that the 80s kids will never forget.

Yep, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is going back to the big screen, and the flick that introduced the Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. love team will be re-introduced to a new generation of teens and tweens.

According to Deadline, the new film is being written by Mike Flanagan (Oculus) and Jeff Howard. It will be produced by the original film's Neal Moritz.

The story ( which is based on the popular novel of the same name by Lois Duncan) follows a group of friends -Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Philippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr. - who accidentally ran over and killed a fisherman on the way home from a party one night. They disposed of the body (because you do that instead of calling 911) only to be hunted down one by one, later on, by a mysterious man with hooks who is off for revenge - and a killing spree.

A sequel was released the following year, titled "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer." A third movie was released direct-to-video in 2006, called "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer."

Unlike most movies with cult followings, Screenrant  suggests that not many will be outraged about the remake, especially since revamping horror movies had been a thing in the industry lately (Carrie, anyone?)

According to The Guardian,  with a movie budget of $17 million and generating $125 million worldwide, "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is one of the top contenders in 90s horrors, together with "Scream" and "Final Destination."

There's no word yet on who the director will be, and there have been no news on the potential cast, but as the website noted, if it will follow the flow of history, they will be casting up and welcoming new talents while having an affordable director on the helm.

Besides "I Know What You Did Last Summer," another slasher success is reported by the Guardian to be making a comeback, but unlike the movie that gave way for the Gellar-Prinze tandem, "Scream" will be airing on TV as a series, with Bob and Harvey Weinstein producing for the MTV slasher entertainment.

Which slasher comeback from the 90s are you most excited for?
