The past two years were very busy ones for award-winning actress and America's BFF, Jennifer Lawrence. She has been working on one movie project after another, churning films within the space of just a few of months. And now, the golden-haired star is taking it easy and giving herself time to rest and to catch up on other things in her life (including the romance department, but that's another story).
One of the films that the 24-year-old had worked on is "Serena," which took about 18 months to finish after starting shooting in 2012. The film, directed by Susanne Bier, is "the story of a New England couple who move to North Carolina to launch a timber industry in 1929," according to CinemaBlend.
"When Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage," the site continued.
Sounds like a dark story - will this be another Oscar vehicle for Jen? After all, the movie has her pairing up with Bradley Cooper again, who she also starred with in "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle" -- both of which earned her Academy Award nominations.
However, film industry observers have wondered why this project has not received the same promotional hoopla as her previous films. Yahoo! Movies pointed out that the movie actually doesn't have a trailer yet, as well as a U.S. distributor, despite the fact that it will be released October 24 in the UK.
"How is it possible for a movie featuring one of Hollywood's most popular star pairings to stay out of theaters for so long?" the site asked. "Serena has all the right ingredients: It's based on a bestselling 2008 novel, directed by accomplished Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, and features Lawrence in the kind of role that seems made-to-order for awards season."
It appears that the reason for this is the fact that it took the director a lengthy time to complete the project - which is "usually a sign that a film is in bad shape."
Is the film too bad for an American release, then?
"There were no reshoots or anything like that," a source had told The Hollywood Reporter. "It was just a real precision edit because the story is about a woman's descent into madness. And Susanne is a total perfectionist."
"We didn't want to be the OK version of the Jennifer Lawrence-Bradley Cooper coupling," the insider added.
So, will there be a U.S. release for "Serena"? That remains to be seen, as there is no word about its launch in American theaters yet. Keep watching this space for updates!
