It has been 2 years since "Prometheus" was released, and now fans are wondering when the sequel will hit movie theaters.

It can be recalled that director Ridley Scott had said there will be a follow up and that the screenplay for "Prometheus 2" has already been completed, as noted by The Guardian last year.

"Scott, 75, said the script by Jack Paglen was finished and described his return to science fiction on the 2012 film as a 'great experience,'" the British news source said.

"Prometheus 2 is written," Scott revealed. "I have already got the next two films ready to go. That will be 2014, 2015."

Did he mean that there will be not one but two sequels to the sci-fi flick?

"I thought I'd left science-fiction for too long, that I had better climb back in. Prometheus was a great experience for me. Chasing number two, we can start evolving the grand idea," Scott continued.

According to The Guardian, the veteran filmmaker's next film is likely to be the Biblical story "Exodus," which boasts of a cast consisting of Christian Bale, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, Joel Edgerton, and Ben Kingsley.

The 2015 project Scott mentioned may be "either Prometheus 2 or (more likely) the previously announced The Forever War, yet another sci-fi project," The Guardian added. Then there's the sequel to Blade Runner to consider, as well.

In a recent interview, the busy director has a number of films lined up for him to take on. When asked about completing all these projects, which include "Blade Runner," "The Martian," and "Prometheus 2," he told Entertainment Weekly this:

"That's the problem. I've got a lot of ducks in a row. But they're all written."

So, essentially, he's saying that it's just a matter of time before all of those movie projects will be finished, as he claimed to have the scripts ready to go already.

With that, it's possible that "Prometheus 2" will be released anywhere from 2016 to 2017-- or even later.

Meanwhile, ScreenRant said that the director hinted at a November shoot for "The Martian" and that the "Blade Runner" sequel will probably start shooting after he wraps up the former. This leaves production for "Prometheus 2" as being set after "Blade Runner 2," which means the film could begin shooting sometime in late 2015 or in 2016. That's quite a long wait.

"Noomi Rapace is still expected to reprise her role as scientist Elizabeth Shaw in the 'Prometheus' sequel, while Scott's long-standing claim has been that 'Blade Runner 2' will likewise feature a female protagonist," the site noted. "A few months ago, Scott took a trip to Australia, prompting rumors that he was there scouting for shooting locations for both of the aforementioned sci-fi features."

"That is to say, both movies look to become a reality in time," ScreenRant reassured.
