It looks like those waiting to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in the United States will have to wait until "later in 2012," according to Samsung. Overseas customers in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East will be able to purchase the handset in October, the company's press release stated.

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note 2 to the world at an August 29 Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin. While they gave details about the device itself, the Korean company did not reveal pricing, U.S. carriers, or a specific release date.

Preorders have already started in other countries such as the United Kingdom, and the release dates given point to a mid-October launch date in Asia, European, and Middle Eastern markets.

One thing that is certain, however, is that AT&T will be carrying the Galaxy Note 2 at launch. The carrier exclusively helped launch the original Galaxy Note in 2011, and you can bet they are will be first in line to offer the handset.

Recent internet leaks also suggest that carriers T-Mobile and Sprint could also be launching their own Galaxy Note 2 versions.

A leaked "About Device" screen showed what could be the build number for a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2.

Some internet sleuthing also turned up Samsung RDF files that showed a Sprint Android phone with the exact same specifications as those listed for the Galaxy Note 2 on Samsung's official website

So far there, hasn't been any indication of a Verizon Galaxy Note 2.

The Galaxy Note 2 will come with a 5.55-inch 1280X720 Super AMOLED display, a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and the S Pen stylus.
