5 Seconds Of Summer is tipped to be the next big thing after One Direction. It may sound far-fetched, but the band's growing popularity is quite noticeable.

The boys from Down Under have a jam packed schedule, joining One Direction's "Where We Are" stadium tour as the opening act. They have released a debut album, earned their first award nomination courtesy of MTV, and will be performing for their fans on August 24, at the Video Music Awards.

Ashton Irwin told MTV of their rising fame as a quartet, "I think it's been different in a few ways, we got to go to Europe for the first time and without them (One Direction), we would have never gotten to meet some of the fans, so that was incredible. There's a few more people singing along to our songs, which is nice. That's just a beautiful thing."

Since 5SOS will be part of One Direction's tour, a collaboration of sorts may be possible. However, the thought seem to have elicited some negative responses from 5SOSfam, a collective term for the Australian band's fans.

During their interview with MTV, the band's fans reacted with a chorus of "boos" as the idea of collaborating with 1D was brought up.

Calum Hood, the group's bass guitarist, howevee, was quick to address the issue by saying, "We are two completely different bands." Luke Hemmings chimed in and said, "We might write with them at some point. If we were going to do a song it'd be with someone that's cool and up-and-coming." The band's fans can be heard calling out "boos" aa the question

Billboard recently wrote a review of the band's debut album, effectively summarizing how 5SOS has been keeping their music unique and relatable to their audience.

It read, "5 Seconds of Summer is also not Blink-182 or any other traditional 'pop-punk' group -- at this point in the band's career, their songs and image carry way more sugar than spice, and the sneering edges have been sanded off to convey something family-friendly. Instead, 5 Seconds of Summer is a hybrid of the two musical ideas, a pop-punk act where the 'pop' greatly outweighs the 'punk' and the guitar riffs are plentiful but don't cut hard enough to have parents concerned. The band's aesthetic is actually pretty ingenious, inviting fans of both genres to come together, sing along to the pristine choruses and head-bang ever so slightly. It's no wonder that 5 Seconds of Summer is one of the biggest new artists in mainstream music."

The group has certainly arrived. 5SOS's "Today" show performance in central New York attracted scores of their screaming fans, mostly girls, the Sydney Morning Herald said.

"Seriously, this is the most incredible thing that's probably ever happened to us. Right now. It's amazing," drummer, Ashton exclaimed.
