Manny Pacquiao may face Chris Algieri in November 22 in Macau.
For several months, the Pacquiao camp has been busy making offers to potential opponents for the Filipino boxing champ. Top Rank Promotions recently handed Manny a formal offer to fight the undefeated American.
Compared to previous offers, Algieri was allegedly given a big offer to challenge Pacquiao. Algieri previously defeated the powerful Ruslan Provodnikov on June 14, 2014 to garner the WBO junior welterweight belt. Provodnikov himself was eyeing on fighting Pacquiao, should he have won the match. Algieri has a record of 20-0 with 8 knockouts.
In a report by Bad Left Hook, Joe DeGuardia said, "We have a Pacquiao offer on the table and we are negotiating that actually as we speak. And I expect that we're going to have a resolution within the next day or two."
Bob Arum of Top Rank said, "I hope we'll be able to get Joe (DeGuardia) on the phone and we'll be able to button this up. We're talking serious now with the idea of making the fight. It's not bullshit. Now, whether it gets made or not I don't know." Arum will be meeting DeGuardia again as well as Artie Pelullo, who has options on Algieri.
In a New York Daily News report, DeGuardia did not reveal the details of the pending deal but said that Algieri will receive seven figures for the fight. The fight will be held at the Venetian Casino in Macau and will be shown on HBO pay-per-view.
Arum did not confirm whether he also made an offer to other fighters to fight Pacquiao. DeGuardia said, "But I can tell you the fight is there for Chris." He added, "It's the best possible fight out there for Chris. He did great in the Ruslan fight and he did great there, but fighting Pacquiao puts him on a completely different level and a win against Pacquiao makes him a star, a legitimate and true star."
Algieri has improved himself so much in his previous fights, making him one of the top contenders against Pacquiao. Pacquiao has a record of 56-5-2 with 38 knockouts. He defeated Timothy Bradley in his last fight. However, the pay-per-view numbers have declined for the Filipino star. Fans are hesitant to pay $70 for pay-per-view unless Bob Arum adds interesting undercards featuring Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. or Mikey Garcia.
