Amazon is rumored to announce its first smartphone during its press event on Thursday, it was reported. According to CBS News, the retail company is also expected to announce a new Kindle Fire 2 and a "paperwhite" Kindle e-reader.
Tech and arts news site, The Verge, first reported that multiple sources had confirmed that Amazon is working on a smartphone that is still unfinished. According to The Verge, the device is expected to run a "forked version of Android 4.0" and will include Nokia Maps.
If true, the new Amazon smartphone would be the company's first venture into the smartphone business, CBS News said. No other details regarding the device are available, including pricing and release date.
CBS News also reported that Amazon is expected to announce a new version of the Kindle Fire, dubbed Kindle Fire 2, and a "paperwhite" Kindle e-reader. The "paperwhite" display would include a high-resolution display with integrated lighting and higher contrast, CBS said.
Amazon's press event and product unveiling is scheduled to begin Thursday at 10:30 a.m. PDT/ 1 p.m. EDT from Santa Monica, Calif.
