Univisión, one of the most important Spanish-speaking media companies in the United States, has joined forces with T-Mobile to enter the mobile phone market.
With a plan focused specifically on the more than 53 million Latinos living in the United States, the two companies said that they're planning to offer plans without a contract which include calls and text messages to over 200 countries, cnet reported on Thursday.
Univisión Mobile will be available starting on Monday, May 19, when it will be distributed in over 1,000 Walmart establishment in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as 3,000 independent establishments around the country, particularly in areas with high concentrations of Hispanics, reported the quoted source.
"Hispanic Americans are among the largest, most important, most influential groups in the USA today. And they deserve a wireless network that will adapt to their needs and interests," explained Mike Sievert, marketing director for T-Mobile, through a press release quoted by The Chicago Tribune.
Univisión, which is entering the phone and wireless networks for the first time, assured that this union is a show of their commitment to the Hispanic community in the U.S.
"This association reinforces our commitment to service our audience in all possible senses and it clearly shows how Univisión is the entry gate for all brands who want to connect with the ever more influential and rapidly growing Hispanic community in the US," said Kevin Conroy, president of Univisión Communications, according to the same newspaper.
The three plans offered by Univisión Mobile include unlimited text messages from the US to countries around the world and 100 minutes of voice calling to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
