Rovio, the creator of the uber-popular game "Angry Birds" is flipping the switch on players with its recent announcement that a version of the game dubbed "Bad Piggies" is set to launch on September 27th.
In "Bad Piggies," instead of playing from the perspective of the angry birds, customers will now be able to play from the pig's point of view, with "not a slingshot in sight," according to Rovio.
"There's a lot of empathy towards the loveable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we've been constantly asked: what about the pig's side of the story?" Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio said in a statement. "Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the Angry Birds universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes."
Rovio has launched a "Bad Piggies" Web site in anticipation of the launch, as well as an official Twitter account and Facebook page. The launch is slated for iOS, Android and Mac customers on the 27th and Rovio says Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC versions will follow shortly thereafter.
"We've had a lot of fun creating a totally new and unique gameplay experience," Petri Jarvilehto, executive vice president of Games at Rovio said in a statement. "There's so much more to these pigs that what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what's going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs."
"Angry Birds," which became wildly popular almost instantaneously after its initial release is now the #1 paid app of all time, according to Rovio. Following the launch of the first version of "Angry Birds" was "Angry Birds Space" in which the birds traveled through a wormhole to traipse around in outer space. This second game in the "Angry Birds" franchise garnered over 10 million downloads in the three days following its release. Will "Bad Piggies" achieve the same critical acclaim from players across the globe? Time will tell.
