The "A.I." alum and champ got the scare of his life when his home was invaded by robbers Monday morning, The Daily Mail reported. Fortunately, the young singer was unharmed.
"The 20-year-old country music singer allegedly was visiting with friends at an apartment unit near the North Carolina State University campus, where he is a student," the British entertainment news source said. "Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said officers were called shortly before 2am Monday to the apartment, about a mile from campus. Three suspects armed with guns are reported to have taken wallets, cash and electronic items."
Scotty then took to Twitter to deliver a statement on the incident. His post read as follows:
"Yes, it was definitely a very scary night. Luckily, my friends and I are safe and the Raleigh PD is on the case. I will share more when the time is right, but as of now we do not want to do or say anything that could hinder the investigation."
"Thanks to everyone for the prayers and the support. A huge thank you to the Raleigh PD for their quick response and hard work in solving this case."
According to The Daily Mail, the 911 distress call received from Scotty's residence had one victim saying that "they took everything we have."
"They were like 'Get down. Get on the floor and give us everything you got,'" the caller said.
The victim also revealed they were made to count up to 100 by the robbers before they got up.
A neighbor said she thought "it was a bunch of college students partying" as she heard people going up and down the stairs and yelling before the police eventually came.
The country music singer is currently in his second year of college and has released 3 albums since winning "American Idol" in 2011. He won the best new artist award at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 2012.
