During a six-day operation that took place all throughout the U.S., the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 3,168 undocumented immigrants.
Dubbed "Cross Check", the operation was the largest ever in the U.S. with almost 50 percent (almost 1,500 people) of those arrested possessing felony convictions including murder, sexual assault, armed robbery, drug trafficking, and kidnapping.
According to the ICE, 50 people were gang members while 149 were convicted sex offenders while . 206 undocumented immigrants were arrested in Los Angeles, 123 in New Jersey and 127 in New York.
The sweep also took place in Puerto Rico, Washington D.C, and three other U.S Territories.
"Cross Check" operation began in December of 2009 and President Obama has since then appeared to be more resolved to deport dangerous criminals living within the U.S. territories.
"These are people we do not want roaming our streets," said John Morton, of the ICE, according to Reuters.
According to the Pew Research Center, 396,000 people were deported last year.
