A Latina who in 2012 impersonated a nurse and attempted to take a newborn baby from the Garden Grove Hospital Medical Center was sentenced on Tuesday to spend 13 years in prison, guilty of kidnapping and theft.
According to OC Weekly, 50-year-old Grisel María Ramírez, a Garden Grove resident, plead guilty in court and received a sentence of 13 years in prison.
In 2012, María Ramírez became national news when she tried to steal a newborn baby allegedly for her ex-husband to keep, after having lied to him for nine months about being pregnant.
Ramírez was also suspected of attacking a pregnant woman in an Anaheim hospital a week before trying to steal a baby in Garden Grove.
A security video shows how Ramírez walks through the hospital dressed like a nurse, got a visitor's ID and entered the room of a woman who had just given birth.
Ramírez, who was accused of impersonating a nurse, entered the mother's room and told her to take a shower before a doctor examined her, put her baby in a bag and attempted to leave the hospital, reported The Daily News.
The bracelet worn by the baby alerted the hospital's security staff and Ramírez, the mother of three children, was arrested and faced a trial that ended this week when she was sentenced to 13 years behind bars.
According to police reports María Ramírez does not have a history of mental disease.
