Megan Huntsman, the Utah woman arrested after the police found the bodies of seven babies inside cardboard boxes at her old home confessed that she gave birth to all of them without medical assistance and then killed them, authorities reported on Wednesday.
According to Reuters, on Wednesday, Salt Lake City police in Pleasant Grove, Utah, told the media that Huntsman admitted to strangling the babies shortly after they were born during interrogation.
In this manner, the police has confirmed initial suspicions that led to think the arrest woman had committed a strange and brutal case of infanticide from 1996 to 2006, years when investigators determined the babies had been born.
According to information published by ABC, Megan Huntsman, 39, had given birth to the babies between 1996 and 2006. Investigators were alerted on Saturday by an emergency call made by a family member now living in the residence where the suspect used to live.
For the moment, investigators are trying to solve the loose ends in this mysterious case which has shocked the people of Utah.
The police believe that Darren Brad West, Huntsman's ex and the person who found the body of the first baby and alerted the authorities, is the father of the six children found later; however, neither West nor Huntsman's three surviving daughters, the youngest of whom is 14, are suspects, reported Reuters.
According to the quoted source, West was freed from jail earlier this year after completing a sentence over drug crimes and was returning to his parent's home in Pleasant Grove when he made the grisly discovery.
Megan Huntsman was arrested and is still in jail, charged with six counts of murder.
