Warner Bros. announced that "Middle earth: Shadow of Mordor" will be released on October 7 of this year for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC platforms, Gamespot reported.
Gamers who pre-order "Shadow of Mordor" will receive the exclusive Dark Ranger DLC. The pack features a new character skin and access to Leaderboards. The DLC also comes with the Test of Power challenge mode where players can face off against Sauron's forces to earn upgrades before starting with the main game, according to IGN.
"Shadow of Mordor" is an open-world role-playing game that takes place between the events of "The Hobbit" and the "Lord of the Rings." It follows the story of Talion, a Ranger of Gondor with Warith-like abilities, in his quest to take down Sauron.
According to the game's Wikia page, players "take on the role of Talion, a valiant ranger whose family is slain the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, Talion ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who have wronged him. Through the course of Talion's personal vendetta, you will uncover the truth of the Spirit that compels you, learn the origins of the Rings of Power and ultimately confront your true enemies."
The movements of the game's main character are similar to those from "Assassin's Creed", which involves a lot of stealth moves in order to kill an enemy. When utilizing the Wraith abilities, Talion gets transported into a realm similar to what Frodo enters whenever he wears the One Ring.
Aside from these, the game also features a "nemesis system." According to IGN's preview of the game, some enemies may survive their encounters with Talion. These survivors can get promoted in Mordor's armies and even recruit followers to help them exact their revenge on you.
Their physical appearance can also change depending on your last encounter with them. For example, if you throw an enemy into a roaring fire and he survives, his body will be riddled with scars and burns the next time you see him.
