A shooting rampage at the Fort Hood military base in Texas last Wednesday left 16 people injured and four dead, including the gunman who was identified as 34-year-old Army specialist Ivan Lopez, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The wounded victims were immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Officials from the Scott & White hospital said four people with "gunshot wounds to the chest, extremities, abdomen and neck" were brought to their facility following the incident. Two more came in and were sent to the operating room for surgery.

According to the hospital's chief medical officer, Glen Couchman, the conditions of the victims ranged, "from quite stable to quite critically injured," Yahoo News has learned.

Lieutenant General Mark Milley commented that the dead and injured victims were all military personnel.

As for the motive of the crime, Milley said, "At this time, there is no indication that this incident is related to terrorism, although we are not ruling anything out."

However, Milley pointed out that the suspect was currently undergoing diagnosis for post traumatic stress disorder days before the shooting incident.

The military officer narrated that Lopez's attack began at around 4 p.m. local time in a medical facility inside the base, according to the Guardian. He then boarded a car and proceeded firing his weapon while on his way to another building.

He was then confronted by a military policewoman in a parking lot where he turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.

President Barack Obama commented on the tragedy and said in a statement, "Any shooting is troubling. Obviously this reopens the pain of what happened at For Hood five years ago. We know these families. We know their incredible service to our country and the sacrifices that they make.

The president was referring to the 2009 incident when Major Nidal Hasan shot and killed 13 people inside the military base.
