The Theater an der Wien has released its 2014-15 season featuring nine productions.
The season will open with a new production Tchaikovsky's "Charodeika." Christof Loy will direct the production with Johannes Martin Kränzle, Hanna Schwarz, Vladimir Ognovenko, and Agnes Zwierko starring in the production. Mikhail Tatarnikov will conduct the production.
The company will also present a new production of Gluck's "Iphigene en Aulide et Tauride." Director Torsten Fischer will helm the production with Christoph Pohl, Ekaterina Siurina, and Veronique Gens starring. Leo Hussain will conduct the work.
Bizet's "Les Pêcheurs de Perles" will also receive a new production by Lotte Beer. Jean-Christophe Spinosi will conduct the work with German soprano Diana Damrau and Dmitry Korchak in the lead roles. Nathan Gunn and Nicholas Teste will round out the cast.
Olga Neuwirth edited edition of Alban Berg's "Lulu" will be shown in Kirill Serebrennikov's production. Johannes Kalitzke will conduct the work with Marisol Montalvo in the title role and Della Miles as Eleanor.
Legendary soprano Edita Gruberova will bring her acclaimed of "La Straniera" in Bellini's rare opera. The work will also star Dario Schmunck and the production will be directed by Christof Loy. Marlis Petersen will also sing the title role in later performances
Paisello's "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" will receive a new production by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier. René Jacobs will conduct the work with Mari Eriksmoen and Topi Lehtipuu.
The company will also present the remaining two opera based on the Beaumarchais plays. The company will perform a new production of Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" with Marc Minkowski at the podium. Felix Breisach will direct the production with a star studded cast that includes with Christine Schäfer, Stephane Degout, Mari Eriksmoen and Alex Esposito.
It will conclude the cycle with Milaud's "La mère coupable" in a new production by Herbert Föttinger. Conductor Hussain will conduct the work with Angelika Kirchschlager, Markus Butter and Mireille Delnunsch.
The final work that the company will also present is HK Gruber's "Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald." The composer will conduct the work in a production by Michael Sturminger. Kirchschlager will perform the role of Valerie with Anja Silja, Anke Vondung, and Daniel Schmutzhard.
The Theater an der Wien is one of the smaller opera houses in the world and is known for exploring the opera repertoire. The past season saw the company present Stravinsky's "The Rake's Progress," Ian Bell's world premiere of "A Harlot's Progress" Schubert's "Lazarus." It also showed Verdi's "I Due Foscari," Mozart's "Idomeneo," Rameau's "Platee," and Verdi's "La Traviata."
The 2014-15 season will run from Sept. 14 to May 17
