"Prometheus 2" has hired a new screenwriter. The film, which has been in pre-production for a number of months, will be rewritten by veteran screenwriter Michael Green.
The Wrap is reporting that the planned sequel is set to begin production in the fall once the director finishes his upcoming film "Exodus." The news source reported that untitled Scott film will be released in March of 2016 and that it may not have the name "Prometheus" in the title. The project had been kept under wraps for a number of months but it was widely speculated that a sequel would happen.
The original screenplay was written by Jack Paglen who recently scribed "Transcendence." With Green rewriting the script the Wrap is reporting that the sequel that Green will write with the aim to be much more "alien-y" and in line with the terrifying tone of past Alien films in the franchise. Additionally, the sequel is expected to feature multiple 'David' androids, which means there will be more than one Michael Fassbender on screen at the same time.
With Green writing the upcoming film and with the few details revealed this could mean the movie will suffer in quality. While the writer has received raves for his work in TV, he has very little experience in film. The writer made film debut writing the 2011 "Green Lantern." That movie scored terrible reviews and was criticized for its script. Green has yet to script a film since then and that could be an issue for the upcoming film. However the writer was recently hired to scribe the sequel to "Blade Runner," which he is polishing up and that could show Scott's confidence in Green's work.
The original "Prometheus" was seen as a prequel to the Alien series that Scott became famous for. That movie received tepid response from critics but scored an Oscar for Special effects. However it was a financial success. The movie made $126 million domestically and $403 million worldwide. It starred Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green and told the story of a team of explorers who discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth. For the upcoming sequel Rapace and Fassbender are expected to return for the film.
Scott is set to direct the upcoming "Prometheus." The director has seen versatility in a number of genres. His latest film "Exodus" is based off the bible and tells the story of Moses. He has also directed "The Counselor," "American Gangster," "Gladiator," and "Black Hawk Down." He is best known for his work on "Blade Runner" which he is also planning on directing.
The new film will be produced through Alcon Entertainment and Scott Free.
Fox is best known for releasing a number of franchises including "Avatar," the original "Star Wars" franchise as well as the "X-Men" series. The studio is set to release Scott's upcoming film "Exodus" as well as David Fincher's "Gone Girl," Matthew Vaughn's "The Secret Service" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The studio next releases "Rio 2" and "the Other Woman."
