Sorry folks. If you've been waiting anxiously for any new updates on Valve's next Half-Life installment, then you might be out of luck for a while.
Many gamers' hopes were raised earlier this month when a leaked document for the gaming expo in Cologne, Germany Gamescom revealed a listing for a Half-Life 3 exhibit by Valve. There was much anticipation for the first new standalone game in the Half-Life series since Half-Life 2 was released back in 2004.
Sadly, Gamescom's organizers later told Eurogamer that the listing was a mistake, and that they take "no responsibility is taken for the correctness of this information," since it was collected using first-party and internet and blog sources.
"We're not showing any games in Cologne this year," stated Valve.
In fact, while many speculate about the game, its existence hasn't been confirmed by any official sources.
After releasing Half-Life 2, Valve decided to focus on episodic sequels rather than a standalone new game. Only two of these episodes have been released, which has left many wondering whether there will be an episode 3, or a Half-Life 3.
But Valve refuses to speak. This has prompted numerous protests against the developer by Half-Life fans, who feel that Valve is shunning the very crowd that put the Half-Life name on the map.
Despite the no-show at Gamescom 2012, Valve is surely thinking of a way to reintroduce its beloved Half-Life franchise to the world after eight years. Don't expect any major announcement just yet though.
When asked about Half-Life 3 on Spike TV, co-founder of Valve Gabe Newell remarked, "I hate sharks.
