Two Republican National Convention attendees were removed after throwing nuts at an African-American camerawoman working for CNN and saying "This is how we feed animals" on Tuesday.
The incident was first reported by former MSNBC and Current anchor David Shuster on Twitter. Shuster tweeted, "GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying 'This is how we feed animals.'" It was later published by news site TPN and confirmed by CNN.
"CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon," a CNN issued statement said. "CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment."
In a short piece published on the network's website, CNN also confirmed that two people had been removed by RNC security and police instead of the one originally reported.
According to CNN, the convention issued a statement that read, "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."
Further details were not released by the network or by convention organizers.
The Republican National Convention, which was delayed by Hurricane Isaac's passing, will formally nominate Mitt Romney as the Republican presidential nominee. Romney, along with running mate Paul Ryan, is expected to officially accept the party's nomination on Thursday.
